My heart is broken that Jan has passed. We had so much fun through the years, starting with our first ride together with the Cres Cycling Club. I remember our first TOSRV, we finally got cycling shorts because we figured if everyone else wore them, how bad could they be and we rode down to Portsmouth with a radio bungie corded to my bike. It was a blast! Jan was a bridesmaid in my wedding to Kevin in 1988 and soon became Aunt Jan to my boys, Alex and Ian. When Kevin and I got transferred to New Jersey we didn't see each other as often as we'd have liked but every time we came back to town we always visited and the phone calls...we probably kept the phone company in business. I'm so happy that Alex, Mary and I talked to Jan on the phone a week before she passed, she sounded terrific like always and was recovering well from her knee replacement. I'm sure that her mom, brother and my husband Kevin were there to greet her as she got to Heaven! We love you and miss you Jan, until we meet again, Rest in Peace!

I remember being on one of Jan’s early, if not her first, rides with our Western Electric bike club. At the midway point we stopped for a break and Jan was one tired puppy. One reason, we discovered that both of her tires were woefully low on air. We got her and her tires pumped up and she went on to become one of our strongest riders and the best of friends.

When I think of Jan I think of the magical energy she brought everywhere she went. I remember her first ride with the AT&T cycling club where she started out as several of us did - no helmet, no water bottle, no pump, and a 3-speed bike. Norm Veseley, Dave Nohle, and other veteran members of the club helped Jan and the rest of us learn how to really ride a bike. Eighteen months later Jan rode the hills of CFC - 200 miles of hills in two days. Photos are the morning of day one, the end of day one, and finishing on day two. I miss you, Jan!

I loved Jan. We were Ohio bicycling buddies and shared so many adventures! Most recently in the Galapagos where this picture was taken (Barb, myself, Jan and Chris). Whenever Jan was around, there was laughter and joy.
One of my favorite memories of Jan was on a long, hilly, and hot bicycle ride. She often coached me (gently) as the more seasoned rider and she was explaining a cooling technique that you could do while still riding. She grabbed her water bottle and said that if you just squirted a little water on your head it really did the trick. So she proceeded to lift the bottle overhead, and the nozzle got stuck in her helmet! Since we were climbing a hill we really couldn’t stop pedaling so she kept going up with the bottle flopping back and forth on her head. I was in hysterics it tickled me so, and I was laughing so hard that I ended up walking up the hill anyway.
I am still in disbelief that I won’t get any more Jan hugs or hear the smile in her voice when we talked on the phone or share any more amazing adventures. I miss her already.

With deepest sympathy. Jan was our neighbor for many years in Columbus. She was such a great gardener and friend to us.
