Obituary of John Frederick Croushore

Croushore, John F., age 90 of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away at peace on May 10, 2010. Predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Sarah T. (Richards), he was survived by his wife of 28 years, Beverly M. (McCoy), son, John (Marjorie), grandchildren, Jennifer Douglas (Shawn), Heather McWeeney (Dennis), Emily Croushore, and great-grandchildren, Emma, Lily and Christopher Douglas, daughter, Sandra Croushore-Rooke (John Rooke) and grandchildren, Joshua Rooke (Janice Baab), Sarah Stowell (Jacob) and Alexandra Rooke, as well as stepchildren, Marion L. Dell, Lois A. Barthol and Thomas R. Cosgrove (Cathy) and families; a cousin, Elizabeth Fischer and family, the families of his brothers, Paul D. and James H. Croushore and Beverly's son, Calvin A. Smith and granddaughter, Holly Lippa (Mark Failing) and great-grandchildren, Madison and Michael Lippa. A metallurgist by profession, John began his career in the Pittsburgh steel industry upon his 1941 graduation from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In 1947 John moved to Lockport, New York to work for Simonds Saw and Steel Company. Thirty one years later, in 1978, he retired as the Cold Roll Superintendent. Throughout his adult life John was engaged in various civil, fraternal and religious organizations. He was a Mason, was a member of the Elks and Odd Fellows Lodges, as well as serving on the Salvation Army Board, all of Lockport. He was also a member of the First English Lutheran Church and Emmanuel United Methodist Church, both of Lockport, and most recently a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Sun City Center, Florida. At home, John was an ardent musician. As a lover of Beethoven and Bach, he performed his first piano recital at the age of 8, gravitating as an adult to the organ. John also was an avid competitor. Whether playing tennis, golf, cribbage or even table tennis, he enjoyed the challenge of a spirited game. By many family and friends, he was also known as a bit of a prankster - a water hose, ice or glass of cold water startling many of his unsuspecting victims. Most of all, John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. To all who knew him, he was a kind, gentle man - a man whose mischievous grin with a tilt of his head will be lovingly remembered. A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held on May 24th at 10:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 701 Valley Forge Blvd., Sun City Center, Florida, 33573.
