Obituary of Gerald L. Schissel

Gerald "Jerry" Schissel, 82 of Sun City Center passed away October 21, 2011, from complications associated with Parkinson's disease. Jerry was born in Calmar, Iowa and graduated from Loras College in Dubuque. Upon graduation he entered the Air Force in 1948 and while stationed in Sacramento, California he met his wife-to-be, Dolores "Pete" Peterson, an Air Force nurse. They married in San Antonio, Texas in 1957 and began a traditional military family life as they were stationed around the world. Jerry retired in 1970 and embarked on another career as a hurricane hunter with NOAA based in Miami, Florida. During his seventeen years in Miami, Jerry was active in Little League Sports. In 1987 Jerry and Pete settled in Sun City Center where Jerry spent his days playing golf. Jerry is survived by Pete, his loving wife of 54 years, his son Michael (Joanne) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, his daughter Mary Grutchfield of Orange, Massachusetts, his son Anthony (Dana) of Lake Mary, Florida, and his grandchildren Cassie, Delaney, Brehnden, Caroline and Jeanne. His memorial mass will be held at 11am October 27, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Wimauma, Florida.
