Obituary of Mary Janice Shangraw

SHANGRAW, Mary Janice (Bonacker) of Sun City Center, Fl. went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2011. She was the daughter of Adam and Celanire Bonacker, and was born in Albany, NY. She graduated from St. John's Academy, Rensselaer, NY and the College of St. Rose (Albany, NY) with a BS in Nursing. After marriage to her college sweetheart, Robert Shangraw, they lived in Norfolk, VA during his Navy career. Following his discharge from the Navy, they initially moved to Warehouse Point, CT, and then lived in East Granby CT for 41 years. During those years, Jan was totally involved in the recovery room at Hartford Hospital and also in her children's youth activities! She was Cub Scout den mother for 4 years, then a junior Girl Scout leader for another 4 years. Bob and Jan moved to Sun City Center, Fl in 1999. Jan was a community leader, president of the Sun City Center RN club, active in Prince of Peace Catholic women's organization, women's chorus, food pantry, and security patrol. Jan is survived by her husband and very best friend of 56 years, Robert D. Shangraw; three sons, Robert E. (Patricia) from Tualatin, OR, Timothy C. (Janet) from Littleton, CO; Michael D. (Barbara) from San Juan Capistrano, CA; two daughters Vicki S. (Joseph) Kvedar from Lynnfield, MA; and Kathi S. Cotugno from Westfield, MA. Her life centered around her 13 grandchildren: Kirsten, Sarah, and Kathleen Shangraw; David and Emily Shangraw; Matthew, Celanire and Rachel Shangraw; Derek, Julie, and Megan Kvedar; Adam and Joshua Cotugno. She is survived by her sister, Helen (Anthony) Iacoponi, brother-in-law, Robert Jordan, sister-in-law Sally Shangraw, cousin Lorraine (Harvey) Bailey, and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 pm Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Sun City Center Funeral Home, 1851 Rickenbacker Drive, Sun City Center, Fl Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated 4 PM, Friday, January 7, 2011 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 702 Valley Forge Boulevard, Sun City Center, Fl. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center or Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
