Obituary of Harvey D. Allen

SEFFNER, Fl.­­--- Harvey Devon Allen, 75, of Seffner Florida passed away at the University Community Hospital in Tampa, on February 18, 2009 surrounded by his family and Pastor. Harvey was born in Johnston Co., North Carolina on April 9, 1933. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea. He was preceded in death by his father, William R. Allen, his mother Pearl Wester Allen and one brother, Ray Allen. Survivors include his wife Patricia Louise Allen of Seffner; his son Harvey L. Allen and fiancé Wendy Reitz of Tampa, Fl., and granddaughter Katrina Lang and great grandson Parker Hudson Lang of Wesley Chapel, Fl., and grandson Trevor Allen of Plant City, Fl.; his daughter Patricia Rexford and husband Larry Rexford of Allen, Tx., grandson Andrew Rexford of Arlington, Tx., and grandson Aaron Rexford of College Station, Tx.; his sister Flora Jane Rodriguez and husband Ralph Rodriguez of Seffner, Fl.; his brother Archie Allen and wife Cheryl Allen of Palm Court, Fl. Nieces and a nephew also survive. He received the National Defense Service Medal, United States Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal while serving in the Army. He was also an expert marksman. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Cummins Engine Company for 18 years and then at Tampa Independent Dairy Farms until being disabled by an automobile accident in 1986. He received a United States patent in 1977 for an Auxillary Fluid Power System for decreasing fuel consumption. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mango, Fl., and of the American Legion. He also supported the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A memorial service will be presided over by the Rev. Billy J. Dickerson at the First Baptist Church of Mango on Monday, February 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Guests are invited to share their memories of Harvey as the family celebrates his life.
