Obituary of Robert Charles Snyder

Robert Charles Snyder December 23, 1920-March 7, 2009 Robert C. Snyder was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois and was an only child of Rollin L. Snyder and Elsie Delot Snyder. He was graduated from The Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois in 1946 where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Bob ran on the track team and was a singer and radio announcer for KBUR in Burlington, Iowa. He fought in World War II with the United States Army 6th Infantry Division in Hawaii, New Guinea, the Philippines and Korea from March 3, 1943-December 23, 1945, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. Bob later earned the rank of Captain in the Army Reserve Forces. Bob married Patricia Louise Halbert of Long Beach, California after meeting her at Monmouth College. He later was hired by The Campbell Soup Company and was promoted and transferred many times during his 37 years of employment. He retired in 1983 as Vice President of Sales for the Campbell Soup Company. His retirement brought Bob and Pat to Sun City Center, Florida in 1984. He enjoyed many activities such as tennis, playing right field on the Sun City Center "Travelers" baseball team, and writing for the Sun City paper. His favorite pastime was rooting for the Chicago White Sox. He had the great pleasure of attending the World Series in 2005 against the Houston Astros in a 4 game sweep. Bob was member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder, Clerk of Session and on various committees. He had a deep love for God, his country and his dear family. Knowing that his earthly life was coming to an end, he spent his final days with family reminiscing and sharing his love and life to all of us. Robert is predeceased by Patricia Halbert Snyder, his loving wife of fifty years. He is survived by three daughters; Sandra Gravlee of Bradenton, Florida, Christy Leonard of Glenside, Pennsylvania, and Alison Grover of Edwardsville, Illinois. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; Tracy Balderach of New York, New York, Kirk Blomgren of Ballwin, Missouri, Natalie Romano of Milwaulkee, Wisconsin, Chad Blomgren of Columbus, Ohio, Kimberly Leonard of Richmond, Virginia, Barrett Miller of Edwardsville, Illinois, Katherine Leonard of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth (Betsy) Leonard of Glenside, Pennsylvania, Todd Grover of Edwardsville, Illinois, Bradd Grover of Edwardsville, Illinois, Mari Gravlee of Denver, Colorado and Michelle Roll of Longmont, Colorado.Great grandchildren include Elsa (Elsie)Balderach and Callie Balderach of New York, New York. In addition to his family, he leaves behind his loving friend, Mary Lou Nelson of Sun City Center, Florida. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Sun City Center, Florida on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 10 AM. Refreshments and fellowship to follow. Interment with military honors will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
