Obituary of Siegfried H. Spillner

Colonel (Ret.) Siegfried H. Spillner (Siggy) passed away on May 24, 2011 at South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center, Florida. He was a resident of Freedom Plaza since it opened in 1992. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty, in July 2010 and his eldest son, Alan, in October 2006. He is survived by his younger son, Wayne (Jacqulyn) Spillner of Virginia and daughter-in-law, Kathryn Spillner of Cary, Illinois, as well as grandsons Brent Spillner (Angela Thelen) of Virginia, Kent Spillner (Ozge) of Connecticut, and Jeffrey Spillner of Ohio. Siggy was born in Minnesota on November 11, 1918, the only child of Edward and Renata Grewe Spillner. On June 29, 1946 he married Betty Jean Fosgate in Cable, Wisconsin. He was a senior at the University of Hawaii at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and was immediately commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. He had a distinguished career as a military policeman with tours of duty in Korea, Japan, Germany, the Pentagon and the Military Police School at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28th at Sun City Center Funeral Home, followed by a noon reception in Siggy's honor at Freedom Plaza.
