My uncle will be dearly missed and was gone too soon as was his sister, my mom.
The first 3 years of my life our family lived together at Turtle Rock in Oswego, Illinois. He was very present in my early childhood. Later in Florida, many of my most treased memories together with him being on our boat Straight on Til Morning and our shared loved of the water. He and my mom both introduced me to rock and roll from an early age for which I am forever grateful. Our time out on the ocean together as a family listening to Jimmy Buffet are some of my fondest memories.
He was well rounded, enjoyed life and worked hard. He was able to learn from a lot of people. He saw the good in people, saw people's needs and took care of things. He had a remarkable reputation in business, was well liked and respected. He had good friends he maintained over many years and was a devoted husband. He could be serious, you could count on him to get things done but also, he was very silly and fun.
I think that life isn't just about what you do it's about the way you do it. And that's certainly what Scott did well, with integrity. Thank you for setting an example of a life well lived.
"I don’t want to get to the end of my life and find that I’ve lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well."

I will miss Scott Kelsey and am immensely saddened by his passing. The world deals out a lot of harsh realities. However, Scott kept his “chin up” through one of the harshest of those. A plethora of fine memories of Scott will always remain near and dear to my heart.
I first met Scott in the summer between sixth and seventh grades. He and his family moved into our former house, after his parents bought the property from my parents. (Our parents were also the best of friends.) We grew up together during the subsequent years, with our friends, including Jay Williams, Dan Dawson, Doug Balensiefen, Steve Linden, and some others, and shared mischief and innumerable adventures.
Among many memories, canoeing, outdoor picnics/parties, road trips, Ohio State football, cool cars, igloos dug in the snowdrifts, farming adventures and more were some of our shared activities. Starting in the fall of 1980, Scott and I attended the Ohio State University together as roommates. I am an Ohio State Alumnus and remain a Buckeye fan to this day.
One time we took a canoe, and some camping gear, all the way from Turtle Rock in Oswego to Wedron, down the Fox River. That was quite a trip, and included our out running some other kids who were chasing us. Completing the trip was the biggest accomplishment, and we camped and found some fun things to do when we arrived at the destination.
We had a big time during the summers, including earning the telling name of the “Dawn Patrol”. Another memory was a wonderful trip to Florida with Scott, in our 72 Chevy, which included an overnight sailing excursion on the Kelsey’s sailboat. Scott was a Navy guy. Concordantly, we are a Navy family, with both sons serving as officers in the Navy.
I agree with Jay regarding Scott's talents, and he had more. Scott, thank you for your many contributions to make the world a better place, my friend, and I will certainly remember you fondly and forever.

I met Scott in 7th grade...Spanish class to be exact. I still remember the day...he had a broken arm and it was in a cast. We immediately connected and that started almost fifty years of laughs and good times but, most importantly, a friendship that was unconditional and extended to a larger group of friends. There were so many things we shared but music was always at the core and that continued all the way through to the end. Some of the immediate things that come to mind are overnight canoe trips down the Fox River, Ohio State football games, Florida road trips, weddings, and concerts...so many concerts. I'd love the opportunity to celebrate Scott's life, so please keep me in the loop on any plans for that because I would not want to miss that.
He was a loyal friend and a great husband to his wife Karen, who he loved very much. Even while fighting this terrible disease, I could see he was thinking more about her than himself. Scott and his family changed my life with their generosity and life spirit and I am a better person for it. I'll miss you Scott...I do already...

Scott and I were best friends from 7th grade to after high school. As a young man, he lived with his family in a beautiful historic stone house on the Fox River in Oswego Illinois. Neile bought two canoes one being a budweiser logo boat and we spent many days and nights up and down that river camping on islands exploring. Neile and Kathy prided themselves on that home it was like a park. The Brills whom they bought it from had taken care to plant many varieties of trees.
Scott was a super fast, agile incredible athlete he could run circles around me. We played a lot of backyard football Scott always kicked my butt. He could beat me at ping pong, pool, football, everything except hockey. gotcha there buddy But we certainly had some good times at the hockey rink. Steve Linden can attest to that.
We use to dig clay from under the limestone rocks. The clay was perfect consistency to make a sticky ball which we often enjoyed tossing at cars going by. We very much liked a good “splat” hit on a window. I think Larry Brill had this idea.
May of 1980,Scott, Doug Balensienfen and myself somehow were able to convince my parents to take one of their two cars and drive from Oswego to Ft Myers FL when we were just 17. We stayed on his parents sail boat for 2 weeks. I’ll not mention the vast quantity of a certain medicinal plant that we smoked and a lot 151 Bacardi rum was flowing. We were all broke just getting by with a combined few hundred bucks. Dan Dawson drove up from NAS Key West and Dan on his motorcycle. It was the only time i’ve ridden a cycle across Florida alligator ally no helmet. So cool. We spent a few days it Ft. Lauderdale somehow managed to survive. I still see Dan another amazing friend of Scott.
Well i’ve got a lot of stories about me and Scott and all our friends and family. He was very intelligent, super funny, great athlete, and all around one of the best friends i ever had.
I’ll miss him….a lot. Jason “Jay” Williams

My Dearest Scott,
Today, my heart is shattered!!!
Who knew the little boy I had a crush on when we were both 5 years old would someday be my “real life” husband? Hmmm – I did!!!
Thank you for being such a kind, loving, wonderful husband, partner is this crazy thing called life and truly my best friend.
Just when I didn’t think my love and respect for you could be any deeper, you proved my wrong!
The way you coped with the diagnosis you received in Feb, was nothing short of awe-inspiring. True to form, you went "all-in” with treatment, even with the knowledge that ultimately the outcome wasn’t going to change. You did it with determination, courage, strength, acceptance, selflessness, as well as with calmness and a sense of humor (and more often than not, you were the one helping to keep MY spirits up).
You continued to go thru treatment and fight hard for your loved ones, and our desire to have the opportunity to spend just a little more precious time with you.
Although it wasn’t easy for you, in between everything going on, we were able to take several amazing trips during the past 10 months, that will forever be etched in my memory.
I am eternally grateful to you for being “you” and for the gift of “extra” time you allowed us to have with you!
Love Always, Karen
