Don Carr

Obituary of Don W Carr

Dr. Don Wesley Carr, 89, husband of the late Marilyn Carr, of Bradenton, went home to his Lord on December 28, 2023. Don was born July 17, 1934, in Newark, Ohio to Herman and Margaret Carr. Marilyn and Don previously resided in Sun City Center; and in Ohio at Indian Lake; East Liverpool; and Milford Center.

Dr. Don graduated from Marysville OH High School and The Ohio State University’s College of Dentistry. Don was a member of the Ohio State Marching Band for six years, participating in two Rose Bowls.

While at Ohio State, Don met his wife-to-be on a blind date. They were married on July 12, 1958 and proceeded to have over 60 blessed years together.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Ann Williams.

He practiced dentistry in Ohio for 36 years before retiring in 1994. His retirement was short-lived as he launched a successful 20-year career in residential real estate—first for nine years with Coldwell Banker at Indian Lake, Ohio, and for11 years with Century 21 Beggins at Apollo Beach, Florida.

Don was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, singing in the chancel choir of every church he attended until his health deteriorated. He was choir director of the Milford Center church for 10 years.

He is survived by two sons: David Wesley (Jill) of Hilton Head Island SC and Douglas Alan (Karen) of Newport News VA. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Lindsey Erickson, Mt Pleasant SC; Grant Carr (Jalaine), Stevensville MD; Sarah Carr, Dundalk MD; and Liam Carr, Newport News VA, and three great-grandchildren: Magnus and Cora Erickson; and Wesley Carr.

Also surviving and dearly missing Don is his partner of four years, Susan Garner. Following the death of Marilyn, Don reached out to Susan who helped run his dental practice for 21 years. Susan was widowed in 2011. Both being lonely, Susan and Don chose to live out their remaining days together.

A Memorial Service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Bradenton on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11AM.  Contributions in Don’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
