Obituary of SALLY ANNE MCDONALD

Sally Anne Wicker McDonald, 85, formerly of Fayetteville, NC, died on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Palm Garden Center In Sun City Center, Florida. Sally spent her last 6 years with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in Florida.  

 

Sally was born in Fayetteville, NC, to the late Isaac Conrad Wicker and Mary Louise Floyd.   Sally’s family later moved to Rocky Mount, NC where she graduated from high school.  She then attended Women's College in Greensboro, NC, and moved to Washington, DC, where she got her first job as a Stenographer (Secretary) working for the Office of the Administrator in Washington D.C.  Sally worked in D.C. during the Kennedy Era and that was something she would never forget and shared many stories about. While living in DC she met Francis Joseph McDonald (Frank) and they married in 1962. They lived in Virginia for several years until they moved back to Fayetteville to be near Sally’s mother, Mary Louise Fisher and her husband Manley B. Fisher.  While living in Fayetteville, she took a job as a Management Analyst at Pope Air Force Base and later at Fort Bragg until she retired in 1998. She was a very active member of  AUSA, Association of the United States Army,  and served on its board for many years.  Sally and her family attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  In 2006, Sally moved to Raleigh, NC to be near her daughter Lisa and lived there until moving to Florida in her final years.

 

Sally is survived by her loving family which includes a brother, William Conrad Wicker of NC, daughters Maggie McDonald Powers (Scott) and Lisa McDonald Aschenbrenner (Johnny) both of FL., son Francis Joseph McDonald (Mac) of NC, grandchildren Meagan Powers Lampe (Eric), Conner, Keller, and Madison Powers of FL. Jack Aschenbrenner (May) and Joey Aschenbrenner of NC, and  great grandchildren Parker and Crew Lampe of FL and John Maximilian (Max) and Mary Eleanor (Elllie) Aschenbrenner of NC.  These great grandchildren were the apple of her eye and her reason to keep going every day. 

 

A private family service will be held at the Powers home in Florida on Sunday, October 22nd.  Sally will have a Graveside Service and be buried beside her Mother in Sanford, N.C. at a later date.
