Obituary of Shirley Detweiler

Shirley F.  Brenton DETWEILER passed away on September 17, 2023.

Born in Chicago on February 21, 1925, to Sigurd Arthur and Martha Thorson. It is there that she attended and graduated from Austin High School. After a long-standing career as an executive secretary. Shirley lived in the Chicago area until 1986 and then retired to Florida.  Over the years she was a choir member, soloist, and music librarian for several churches in Illinois and Florida.

Shirley leaves behind her daughter Christine Brenton Essenburg (married to Jack Essenburg), as well as her grandchildren: Gloria Essenburg Palmer (Nathan); Daniel Essenburg (Riannon); Joseph Essenburg (Amy) ; Jack A. Essenburg (Jacquelin, her 11 great-grandchildren and two nieces.

She is preceded in death by her sisters Alice Thorson Lundberg and Edna Thorson Greenwald, her first husband Russell L. Brenton, to whom she was married from 1947 – 1998, and her second husband A. Clayton Detweiler, to whom she was married from 2001 – 2014. 

A Funeral will be in held in Illinois.
