Arnold Lenius

Obituary of Arnold Edward Lenius

Age 93 (two days shy of 94) of Lakewood Ranch Florida passed peacefully at Windsor Reflections on July 29th.  Arnie is preceded in death by a host of beautiful souls: his parents Arnold & Sophia Lenius; three siblings, Immanuel “Sonny” Lenius, Phillip Lenius and Regina King.  He is survived by his sister, Rachel Strauss, sisters-in-law, Caroline Lenius and Arlene Lenius, and many nieces and nephews.

Anyone who had the privilege to know him has certainly lost a dear friend, brother, or uncle.  He was one of the kindest souls you would ever meet. He was born outside of Richwood WI on August 1st, 1929.  He devoted his life to his country and teaching career.  He was a proud veteran serving in the Korean war from 1951 to 1953.  For over 30 years Arnie was a Department of Defense teacher.  He majored in Elementary Education and mainly taught kindergarten through third grade.  He has kept in close contact with several of his students and took great pride in their accomplishments.  Teaching in the armed forces took him to many different countries -fifteen years in Spain, two years in Korea, one year in Germany and fifteen years in Italy.  When he wasn’t teaching, he was traveling throughout the world.

Arnie loved traveling, cooking, entertaining friends, movies, theater, sewing and quilting.  When asked what kept him so healthy, he attributed it to eating right, a daily walk and his one shot of gin before dinner.

Arnie has donated his body to science research.  A Graveside Service will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery after the ashes are returned from body donation.  There will also be a private family celebratory lunch held in Wisconsin, date to be determined.

A special thank you to Lisa Wheeler for taking such good care of him.  Lisa was his Visiting Angel.  They have spent four years together and have developed a great bond and friendship.  Thank you to Windsor Reflections and their staff.  Additionally, thanks to Tidewell Hospice, what a fabulous organization, their help and support was greatly appreciated.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating in honor of Arnie to Tidewell Hospice or Saint Jude Childrens Hospital.
