Obituary of Phillip John Markovitz

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Phillip John Markovitz, dedicated and loving husband to Helen (Kromer) Markovitz and father to David (engaged to Lisa Skokowski), Debra (married to Stuart Greenspan), and James Markovitz.

He peacefully passed away on July 24, 2023 surrounded by family in Florida. Phillip and his brother, Joseph Markovitz (deceased) managed Del Monte Supermarkets in St. Louis which were started by their dear father, Dave Markovitz. He also owned Warehouse Foods, Shop N Save, Price Chopper, and for 20 plus years, Boat Lift Marine Center. He was the pillar of his family who worked hard, relaxed hard. Phillip was a man of few words with a big heart, always there for you and never expected anything in return. He cared for many people, though you might not know till you needed help. Phillip coached his children’s sports teams; soccer, baseball, and softball and took pride and joy in his family. Phillip was an avid automotive enthusiast and restored many vehicles ranging from dune buggies to Corvettes. In his youth and adventurous spirit, he drag raced cars and his favorite movie was American Graffiti.

Phillip was also survived by his siblings Diane Longo (nee Markovitz) and John Markovitz. He is the Grandfather to Elizabeth, Charles, Brendan, Curtis, Andrew, Amber, Michelle, John, Josephine, and Great Grandfather to Helen, Heidi, Braylen, Maisie, Rachael, Leyla, Lillian, Lucille. Phillip, we love you and hope you have found everlasting peace and joy.
