Obituary of Margaret Relihan

Margaret “Margie” Relihan surrendered and entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on October 2, 2020, in Tampa, Florida.

Margie was predeceased by her husband Bill Relihan, and her parents Thomas and Harriet Flaherty.  Margie is survived by Kathleen “Katie” Relihan Schuemann (Chris), her daughter, and Michael Relihan (Cristina), her son.  Margie is also survived by many friends and kindred spirits who she held dear.

Margie was born in Mobile, Alabama, on November 7, 1949, and later grew up in the Irish neighborhood of South Boston, Massachusetts.  She attended the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City, studying marine biology.  After graduating, she joined her mother working for AT&T and, through her determination, became one of the first female telecommunications technicians.

In an effort to have more time with Bill and their young children, Margie pursued a career in education, where she quickly found her true calling and purpose. She later obtained a Master’s in Education.  Margie taught for over 15 years at Eisenhower Middle School, forging many lasting relationships with her fellow faculty and students.

Margie passed from complications resulting from her seven-year battle with cancer.  Even to the bitter end she remained positive and more concerned with the happiness of others than her own struggle.

The family will receive friends and visitors between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on November 7, 2020, at the Sun City Center Funeral Home, located at 1851 Rickenbacker Drive, Sun City Center, FL 33573.  A private service will precede this event at 11:00 a.m.  The family requests that all visitors wear appropriate masks.
