Obituary of Kathleen M. Monahan

Kathleen (Kay) M Monahan longtime resident of Kings Point passed away peacefully Saturday, November 9th at the Lifepath Hospice House of Sun City, Florida.

Born August 15th, 1930 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to the late Catherine and Harold Helfrich, Kay graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lawrence and enjoyed her life in the Merrimack Valley Area with her family and friends.  Always up for a good joke, laugh or song, Kay enjoyed bowling, playing cards, the Boston Red Sox and her beloved Salisbury Beach where she spent her childhood summers and later as a full time resident.  She retired from ATT/Bell Labs after 35 years of service in 1992 and moved to Indian Rocks Beach to be closer to her son and family.  In 2004 she moved to Kings Point where she enjoyed many activities and groups including the Ancient order of the Hibernians, New England Club, Pioneer Club and her newfound friends that shared her passion for lively conversation on a variety of topics including politics and Boston Sports, a good Irish joke and of course a few bars of her favorite Irish Ballad.

Kay was a member of the Prince of Peace Church where she also volunteered as an “office angel”, Eucharistic minister and at many holiday events.

Kay was a devoted mother to her son Ray Monahan of Ruskin and nieces and nephews back in New England and throughout the United States.

She is preceded in death by her brother Harold Helfrich of N. Andover Mass, Bernard Helfrich of Trumbull, CT., and sisters Denise Sweeney and Louise Carney both of Methuen MA.
