I am a cousin to Anita and meet Russ when they married. My mom, Gertrude Arnold, was Anita's aunt (sister to Pearl Evelyn Stewart). Mom & Dad traveled to Oral Roberts University and visited Russ and Anita there and had a grand visit. My Dad passed away on 2/20/1981 and Russ delivered a beautiful eulogy to honor him. I wish I had a copy of what he had said as it meant the world to me. Since mom was the baby sister, and the last to pass (3/21/2014), we have lost touch with many of the family members. So I just wanted you all to know how much his smile and love meant to me and our family. With Deepest Sympathies, Ronda Arnold Rattray

Garth Russell Akridge was my Father-in-Law. He was such a kind, loving, giving, highly-intelligent, down to earth, personable, funny man. I can still hear his "oh, Ha ha ha" laugh. Heas tender and soft-spoken. He was an entertaining story teller, of which he loved telling stories from his innocent but mischievious years as a yound boy growing up in Jacksonville,FL. He would tell stories about burning the kitchen when he and a friend ran to watch Howdy Doody, then realized it and hid from his mom in the orange tree out back- oranges falling off as they tried to hide. He also told about Brer Rabbit and the briar patch. One of the most animated I remember was about catching crabs with strips of bacon and throwing them on the dock upside down rubbing their underside until they relaxed on their backs and went to sleep ...but later woke them up by throwing one on the pile and they would attack each other...it was like hot ball of crab.So glad we heard that story one last time and I think we have it recorded. Mr. Akridge, we miss you...It was my pleasure to call you Dad. You were loved very much by your wife, children, and grandchildren. It is an honor to be your daughter-in-law and we continue to tell our children and grandchildren about you and your stories. You cared for your family well. Well done good and faithful servant. Rest in Peace until we meet again.

I remember when I was a really tiny little girl and you would swing me between your legs and then onto your shoulders. I thought you were so tall and it looked so far down. Miss you.
