Obituary of Frank Joseph Yanacek

Frank J. Yanacek, 87, passed away Monday, August 20 at the Hospice House. Frank was born in Lansford, PA and served in the U.S Army as a Russian Interpreter during the Korean War. Frank was the top graduate of his class at the Army Language School in Monterey, California, where he was fluent in Russian and Slovak. Frank managed to visit all of North America as well as many countries in Europe.

Before retiring in 1988, Frank worked in logistic management positions with Dow Chemical, Westvaco and SCM Corporation in Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Illinois and Ohio and as an Associate Editor for Transportation and Distribution Management in Ohio. Frank was also an adjunct professor of Economics at Cleveland State and Junior Colleges in New Jersey and Ohio.  In addition, he worked as an assistant consultant, rewriting company policy manuals.

Frank attended Rutgers in New Jersey, Northwestern in Illinois and graduated from Central Michigan with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration and Economics.  He received his Master’s Degree in Social Science from William Patterson University in Wayne, N. J.  Frank also earned a coveted Interstate Commerce Commission Practitioners license, one of the few at the time in the country, who could practice law before the Interstate Commerce Commission.

 

In retirement, Frank and his wife taught English in what was then Czechoslovakia and Frank served on an aid distribution mission in Armenia.  Following his retirement, Frank and his wife, Jacqueline moved from Ohio to South Carolina and in 1994 relocated to Sun City Center, Florida where Frank was founding member and past President of the Pennsylvania Club and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered his time preparing and filing taxes for 15 years for residents as well as being a substitute teacher in the local schools in Wimauma and Ruskin, Fl.

Frank is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (Sipko).  They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on December 26.  The couple has five children:  two sons, James (Cathy) Yanacek, residing in Midland, Michigan, Richard (Lily) Yanacek in Palm Harbor, and three daughters, Kathryn (Jeff) Mason in Morehead City, N.C., Janice (Jim) Bartolin in Raleigh, N.C. and Carolyn (Paul) Bredwell in Canton, Georgia.  They have six grandchildren: John Yanacek, David (Laura Grit) Yanacek, Erin (Edward) Leanord, Alexandra Lowrie, Jillian (Michael) Roan and Jenna Bredwell.  They also have one great granddaughter, Addilyn Bredwell.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 am, Thursday, September 6, 2018 with military honors at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 702 Valley Forge Boulevard, Sun City Center, FL.
