Obituary of Eugene Jerome Pope

Eugene Jerome Pope, D.V.M. Dr. Eugene (Jack) Pope passed away Monday, August 18, 2008 at the age of 88 in Sun City Center, FL. Dr. Pope was born on December 25, 1919 and grew up in southeastern Virginia. He received his Doctorate degree from Auburn University Veterinary School in 1943. He served in the US Army Veterinary Corps in WW II as a First Lieutenant. After serving the Norfolk, Virginia community in the practice of veterinary medicine for over 40 years, he retired from his practice at the Carpenter Pope Veterinary Clinic in 1990. Earlier in his career he had been the director of Norfolk City Veterinarian Services. He was also an honor roll member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jessie E. Pope, two sons: Jerry and his partner Jeffery Smith of Englewood FL; Jim and his wife Ellen with three grandchildren Christine, Jennifer and Brenton of Palmetto, FL. He is also survived by his brother William M. Pope of Norfolk, Va. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the Sun City Center United Methodist Church Chapel. Burial will be at Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of choice in Jack's name.
