Obituary of Jean Harris Nelson

Jean Harris Nelson (Granny to everyone), 95 years old, Born January 7, 1927 in Rockholds, KY was living at Sun Towers in Sun City Center, Florida, passed away at St. Joseph Hospital South on January 23, 2022. She was born and raised in and around Corbin, KY. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from University of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Charles W. Nelson, Jr., her parents Dave and Elizabeth Harris, her sisters Evelyn Watson and Mary Jaynes, her grandson Jeffery Carter and great granddaughter Arianna Carter. Jean is survived by her daughter Lynda and son-in-law David Carter, her sister Betty and brother-in-law Richard Kelly, her grandchildren Alicia Nixon, Angela Waldauer, and Dave Carter, III; great-grandchildren Lexi and Grant Garner, Kegan Edmiston, Kobie and Kogan Waldauer, Cierra, Davie and Jax Carter, Samantha Smith and Morgen Nixon; great-great-grandchildren Selycia, Kalan and Donovan Edmiston, and Sophie Remiendo and Preston Smith as well as a host of nieces, nephews and “outlaws”. 

She lived many years in Beckley West Virginia with Chuck. After he passed away she moved with her daughter and family to Florida. Granny loved nursing, reading, sewing, traveling and spent much of her time with her very large family. She enjoyed sewing, reading and clearing the acres around her home in Sundance with hand tools. She helped raise her sisters, cousins, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren both in Kentucky and locally. She was needed by everyone, loved deeply and will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Sun City Center Funeral Home from 6-8pm with a Funeral Service beginning at 7:30pm.
