Obituary of Larry Schoonover

Schoonover, Larry Joe, 69, of Wimauma, FL passed away January 13, 2022 at 3:23 AM The Hour of Divine Mercy at home with family at his side. Larry was born on the family farm in Attica, Michigan. He graduated from Imlay City High School the class of 71. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Thelma Schoonover; and his siblings Brothers Duane Schoonover (Debbie) and Clyde Schoonover and sister Diane Davis (Wayne). Larry is survived by his wife Joyce his siblings Lee Schoonover (Karen), Judy Thomas (John Boomer), LouAnne Blumerich (Bob), Tina Furca (Greg), Dawn Upleger, Krista Pittman (Tom), Michael Schoonover. While Larry had no biological children he raised and loved all of his step children, Melissa Vance, Duane Vance, Pete Seelbach (Ashley), Roger Seelbach (Heather), Michelle Collington (Scott), his many wonderful and loved grandchildren Devin Huey, Savannah and Haley Vance, Kaidin and Isabella Seelbach, Lorelei Seelbach, and Sean,Tyler and Cooper Collington.  He also had many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews whom he loved and prayed for.


Larry was very artistic and expressed it in restoration of antique cars.  He did amazing work. He had many friends he met through the antique cars. Larry was employed many years at Manatee Memorial Hospital where he was Steam Plant Operator. He also worked for 21 years at the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office where he instructed inmates in auto body restoration plus many other projects at the Sheriff’s Office. He mentored many young men in improving their lives through the program.


Larry received the sacraments at St Anne Catholic Church in Ruskin, Fl. He loved the church and attended regularly. Larry welcomed everyone at the door with his huge smile and gracious words of welcome. He was a Second Degree Knights of Columbus.


Larry will always be remembered for his gentleness, warm smile, kind and giving heart. He was a wonderful man who loved the Lord and expressed it in his daily life.


A viewing will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church, 106 11th Ave NE Ruskin, FL 33570, on January 19, 2022 at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM,  Larry will be interned at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater, Fl.
