Ed and I grew up together, as we were only 11 months apart. We were more than just cousins, but best of friends. I have lots of memories of times together, as kids, as well as family get togethers, especially at our grandparents’ house. We often talked about how great our grandmother’s cooking and baking was.
Ed returned from Vietnam in time to be a groomsman in my wedding. Alan and I were thrilled to have this great guy help us celebrate our special day. It was also his parents’ 23rd anniversary on that very same date.
I will miss our phone conversations, which we had multiple times a week, right up until the end. He always answered the phone with, “Hi little cousin” even though I was the older one. I loved reminiscing with Ed and I will hold all of those memories close.
Laura, Brenton and Jeff, as tough as Ed’s illnesses have been, on all of you, you have been there for him, with such good care and love. I know that you have plenty of wonderful memories, from better times, and I hope that you hold them close and think of them often.

Ed and I have always been separated by age (he was 4 years older so, he was so much more sophisticated and experienced than us younger cousins -- in our minds), and by geography (we've never lived in the same state even though we were both born in Springfield, Mass.). But we shared the same wacky grandparents and aunts and uncles, and we both raised two sons, so family was what bound us. I regret that we didn't take more trips to see each other and to swap family stories and jokes together. I hope that when he finds our grandmother Ethel Solin up in Heaven, he tells her to hang on until I get there so we three can swap family stories (she had two sons, too) and so she can tell us about our dads when they were kids. I'm thinking of you, Cuz, and of Laura and your sons.

God’s grace and comfort to Ed’s family. At AAA Ed was liked by all. A good friend and very hard worker. Great sense of humor. Respect his military service, especially in the Vietnam war when our service men and women did not get recognition they deserved. Family has much to be proud about.

He was a great guy. He went with me to a job interview in Berlin Vermont back in 1971 and we then drove up to Montreal from there. It was a great trip.
I wanted him to join the Marine Corps Reserve unit I was in in Springfield MA. He didn’t want to, guess he had enough of that, but he did teach a class for us about calling in Naval gunfire. He also went to the Marine Corps Ball one year.
My big regret is I lost touch with him when he moved away years ago. But, I still have good memories of the times we spent together. Semoer Fi

December 31, 1999 a blessed day indeed -- Laura married a man who would be a true partner and I got an older brother! This marriage extended further to include a number of wonderfully welcoming Solins. Blessed day indeed.
