Rosa Abusaid

Obituary of Rosa Elvira Abusaid

On October 10, 2020 Rosa Elvira Abusaid passed away holding the hands of her children and surrounded by family.   Rosa Elvira was born on April 5, 1930 in El Espino, Boyaca, Colombia to Adolfo Lozano and Juana Valbuena. Much of her childhood was defined by the political conflict of her home country at the time.  And yet, she persevered. Rosa graduated top of her class at the Colombian-American University in Bogota, where her love of communications flourished. She would later devote her early years to telegraphy and bilingual communications, all while moving to the United States and then dedicating her life to teaching English as a second language.  Passionate about traveling, practicing Tai Chi and learning new things, Rosa spoke several languages and had a fondness for the piano and practicing Hula dancing. But above all was her family.

Survived by her children Ellie, Janet and Lou and five grandkids: Caitlynn, Elijah, Mimi, Mia and Reid. Rosa leaves behind the well cemented pillars of a loving family that includes nephews and nieces, such as Cristina, Carolina, Eduardo, Fernando, Reynaldo and Nasyezda;  friends and extended family among which are the loves of her daughters, James and Larry, her adored Lucecita and Carita, and her honorary extra children Joe and Michelle.

A benevolent Catholic, let it be known that Rosa Elvira Abusaid was an example of resilience, will power, strength, a wonderful sense of humor and more than anything ....kindness. She left a mark on everyone who had the opportunity to meet her and we will miss her dearly.
