I just learned of Gene’s death through the recent Michigan Trooper Magazine. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. He was a lifelong friend of my late husband and fellow member of MSP Terry Howell.
Terry loved Gene like a brother and his memories of their adventures always gave him a smile.
His visit to our home was a highlight of Terry’s last summer, they reminisced and laughed for hours.
He spoke at Terry’s funeral and brought us all some insight into their bond and friendship and some stories that made us all laugh.
He was a wonderful man, a true friend, and a great storyteller.
My thoughts are with his family,
Jill Howell

Farewell my brother. Thank you for your good cheer, your generosity, and always being the first to offer help to anyone that needed it. You've been a great husband and best friend to my sister and were always a great source of comfort and humor to our parents. Thank you for all of that. Love, Michael and Rachel.

Met Gene for the first time on October 7, 1983, the day Gail and I married. Later we would laugh about Gene getting assigned the photographer by my Dad and his re-enactment of the very loud Polaroid instamatic he was given for that important assignment. I'll never forget how he made my mother laugh re-telling that story at his retirement party. So many good times on Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac, at Lion games and he even put up with me on the golf course(always scored twice as high as Gene). Not only was he a Gentlemen, but he was also a gentle man. We all loved him.

My brother in law who was one the most kindest, loving, generous, fun loving guy that I am honored to call my "brother". Thank you Gene for showing me the finer things in life. Traveling with you and Kathy on our numerous cruises and vacations were always first class. I love you dearly and missing you already. Your sister in law, Sandy
