Johnnie McCray

Obituary of Johnnie Earl McCray

Johnnie McCray, son of the late Henry McCray and Mary P. McCray, was born June 30, 1948 in Pensacola, Florida. He attended the public schools of Dade County and was a graduate of Miami Edison High School. He enlisted with the Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam. For several years, he was employed with Metro Dade Transit. Eventually, he became an entrepreneur and owner of Bumpy Express, LLC. He also served faithfully as a volunteer firefighter and first responder. Johnnie lived in South Carolina for many years before deciding it was time to settle down in Tampa, Florida.

With a generous spirit and pleasant personality, it can be truly said, “he never met a stranger in his life”. Loved by many, Johnnie departed this life on Friday, October 11, 2019, at the James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

Preceded in death by his brother Araan Alexander Shepard and his mother, Mary Pauline Rankin McCray, Johnnie leaves a legacy of love and great memories with his brother Rick McCray and family; his sister Virginia “Pat” Minter and family; his children, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
