Obituary of Fielding Read Morrison

Fielding Read Morrison, age 96, died on June 11, 2019 at Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Florida after a short illness. At his request there will be no service.

Read was born May 28, 1923 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. His parents were Fielding Decatur Morrison and Lida Stannard Morrison.  Read was a 1941 graduate of Jeffersonville High School and played on the basketball team.  He attended Indiana University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, left to serve in the Army Air Corps, and returned to graduate in 1948.  On June 26, 1948 he married Elizabeth (Beth) Carney (daughter of Dr. Joel Carney and his wife Sue) and the couple went on to have four children.

Read worked as a Packard Dealer in Louisville with his father until the company’s demise and then with several coin operated laundry equipment companies first in Louisville and later serving as Midwest regional sales manager in Cleveland and as Western regional sales manager in Los Angeles.  In 1973 he became a stockbroker and worked into his seventies, primarily with a regional firm called Sutro in Los Angeles.  He and Beth moved to Florida in 2006 to be near their daughter.

Read was preceded in death by a young brother Edward and by his beloved sister Jane Morrison Walker.  He is survived by his wife Beth and four children (Julia Morrison Griffith, Joel R. Morrison, David F. Morrison and William C. Morrison), four grandchildren (Melissa Morrison Geoghegan, Benjamin Griffith, Nicholas Morrison and Alexander Morrison, three great-grandchildren (Brady, Blake and Bryce Geoghegan), as well as his dear nephew, F. James Walker.
