Phil was my best friend in Waterbury, CT from 1954 through 1960, beginning at Kingsbury elementary school through Cheshire Academy high school. We shared a love of the 'new' music of the day, now known as 'oldies', a passion for Whiffle ball, but most of all, a kinship about our siblings, never verbalized at that age, but inherently understood. We lost track of each other when going off to college, but years later, with the help of my wife, Eileen, we connected with Rabbi Phil in Elmira, NY.
He was as I remembered him, even kinder, generous of spirit and humanity. He was very happy in Elmira telling me, he would stay as long as the congregation would have him. The last two years or so, I emailed Phil with trivia questions about 1950's music; he delightedly answered every question correctly.
Rest in peace my dearest of friends. Steve Walk, Great Neck, NY

My wife, Elise, and I were members of B'nai Israel in Elmira and Rabbi Aronson married us, co-officiating with Father Stephen McGough of Troy, Pa. Rabbi Aronson was very supportive of us as a couple and led to a strengthening our faith as a married couple. We are only sorry that we did not get to tell him how much he meant to us then and now. We found out about his passing when we attended services Friday night at Kol Ami in Elmira while we were back in the area visiting. His legacy lives on in us.

Phil Aronson was the Rabbi at Temple B'nai Israel in Elmira, New York. We were very active members of the congregation. Very surprised that Phil passed away at such a young age.

To The Aronson Family,
We were members of Temple B'nai Israel in Elmira, New York. I, Judith, was on the board of directors at the temple and my husband, Anatole, was in charge of the bagel brunch every Sunday morning. That was many years ago. Phil was a different kind of a Rabbi. We were members of Temple Concord in Binghamton, New York. Our Rabbi there was Rabbi Elihu Shagrin whom we respected. Rabbi Shagrin has since passed away in Sarasota, Florida.
Signed,
